Small Bedroom Ideas and Space Saving Furniture

The bedroom is a place of comfort and relaxation. It should be properly furnished and appear adequately roomy rather than all cluttered up. Having a small bedroom can be a disadvantage, but a large square footage does not necessarily make your bedroom more inviting or comfortable. How you distribute the space is what matters most.
Loft Bed
A loft bed is the best space-saving furniture item for a very small bedroom or a studio apartment where you need to combine your work space and resting area together. It will be better if your bedroom has a high ceiling, because that means you will have plenty of headroom. The space under the bed can be used for any activity. Some people place their desks there. Some prefer furnishing it with a few bean bags and recliners. You can do whatever you wish with that extra space.
Valance with Pockets
When it comes to decorating a small room, every bit of extra storage space counts. A box-pleated valance with storage pockets can help keep your bedroom neater and can be a cute decorative item as well. Stop piling stuff on the nightstand. You can put all your odds and ends such as magazines, slippers, make-up or even your cellphone in those pockets.
Space Enhancing Doors
Although mirror doors do not actually help save any space, they can make your bedroom visually double in size. You can either use it as the main door to your room or as the closet door. Try not to add too many unnecessary details such as thick wooden panes to it. Keep it lean and simple as much as possible. If you do not like the idea of having a huge mirror in your bedroom or believe it can cause bad feng shui, opt for a frosted glass door instead.
Hide Your Mess!
Who said the bed is only for sleeping on? If your bedroom is very small and the bed takes up almost the whole room, why not use the space under it to your advantage? A bed with storage drawers is a very smart choice for a tiny space. You can keep so many things in there from clothes, shoes, books, to bulky blankets. Maybe you will not even need a closet at all. If your bed does not come with any storage compartments, try using trays or low boxes on four casters, which can slide in and out as conveniently as real underbed drawers.
Two-In-One Nightstand
Although it is just one little nightstand, you still have to be picky. For a small bedroom, a simple bedside table will likely be a shortcoming. Try to find something with at least one or two drawers for extra storage space. It is like you have a nightstand and a cabinet two-in-one. When you shop for bedroom furniture, always keep in mind that your goal is to maximize space .
Let the Light Shine In
The more light you let in, the bigger the room will look. Painting your bedroom walls with soft eye-pleasing colors such as white, light blue or pale yellow can help reflect the light and visually maximize the size of the space. Venetian, Roman and roller blinds are ideal for little bedrooms, as they make the room seem bright and airy while allowing you to have your privacy at the same time. Roller blinds are also practical decorative items when you try to separate two areas in the bedroom or make one room do two jobs.

I love these ideas! Mirrored doors in the little boy's room would be wonderful, but I would have to find shatter-proof ones.
