How to Feng Shui the Bedroom - Colors and Object Placement
97Ask yourself whether you feel that your bedroom is a peaceful sanctuary, your favorite spot of retreat and a wonderful love nest or not. If the answer is no, maybe there is something wrong with your bedroom feng shui. A simple rearrangement of furniture and a little tweak in the color theme may be able to enliven your bedroom quite a bit.
Feng shui (pronounced fung-shway) literally means "wind and water." It is an ancient Chinese art of space arrangement, object placement and decoration. In feng shui practice, everything is categorized into either yin or yang. Yin conveys slowness, relaxation, passivity, coldness, gentleness and tranquility. Yang, on the other hand, stands for rapidity, excitement, vigor, heat, hardness and restlessness. The fundamental idea of feng shui is to arrange things in a way that keeps yin and yang in good balance so that the "life force or spiritual energy" called "chi" can flow through all objects in your home freely.
This notion applies to bedroom feng shui as much as the rest of your home. A good bedroom feng shui should depict a sense of comfort and safety, create a romantic atmosphere for lovers, and invigorate sleepers for a new day. According to all feng shui gurus, if you keep everything in good balance and allow chi to flow freely, longevity, contentment, success and prosperity will also come. Everything that surrounds us, so to speak, affects our life.
On a higher level, feng shui can get quite complicated. If you hire a professional feng shui consultant to help decorate your bedroom, a lot of things will be called into consideration. For example, in which direction your bedroom faces, in what year your home was constructed, your birthdate, your partner's birthdate, other buildings surrounding your home, etc. But of course, not all of us can afford to hire a feng shui consultant. So we will just have to do it ourselves! And the good news is it's not that difficult. Here you will learn some basic feng shui precepts, applicable to all types of bedroom.
Colors
In feng shui, colors are divided into two groups. Yin colors are supposed to soothe your soul and help you relax whereas yang colors tend to motivate and excite you. As a bedroom is a place for retreat, yin colors should be dominant. Having too much yang will stir up too much tension and stop you from relaxing. However, your bedroom should not completely lack the yang energy, for having too much yin can cause languidness and the lack of motivation.
Yang Colors
- Red
- Purple
- Yellow
- White
- Gold/Orange
Yin Colors
- Pink
- Green
- Blue
- Gray
- Black
Color Feng Shui for Good Health and Longevity
Green and blue are said to be the colors that can enhance our health. Feng shui practitioners believe that the color green symbolizes longevity, growth and rebirth while the color blue represents calmness, flexibility and inner peace. To paint your bedroom walls green or to use it as the theme color is like bringing nature into your room. It can revitalize those who have been ill and be the soul tonic to those who are already healthy. Similarly, decorating your bedroom with the color blue is believed to be good for relaxation and meditation. When your mind becomes more refreshed, your body will do the same.
Color Feng Shui for Wealth and Career
Red, purple and gold, according to feng shui masters, can induce good luck and prosperity. However, they are yang colors, therefore you should not use too much of these shades in your bedroom where you are supposed to rest and relax. Use them as accent colors, instead.
Black, white and gray are the colors that can improve luck in your career. Black symbolizes good income and insightfulness. White represents creativity and mental strength. And gray is said to create the sense of self-empowerment and confidence. Keep in mind that even though black is a yin color, it tends to absorb negative chi when you use too much of it to decorate your home.
Color Feng Shui for Romance and Relationship
The best colors for enhancing your love life are pink, yellow and orange. Feng shui practitioners believe that pink can create positive energy for all couples both in terms of sexual fulfillment and selfless love. Yellow can induce acceptance and tolerance, though using too much yellow to decorate your bedroom may create anxiety. Orange, the vibrant blend of red and yellow, can lend passion and undertstanding to you and your partner.

Bed Positioning: Dos and Don'ts
Dos
- Shun away from the door - Place your bed as far away from the bedroom door as possible. (See the above picture.) The ideal corner for the bed is the one diagonally opposite to the door. Most feng shui masters say that this position can help you gain a sense of relaxation and safety while resting. Also, it's the position where you can benefit most from the chi that flows through your bedroom.
- Get solid support - The head of your bed should be placed against a wall or have a solid headboard. Feng shui practioners believe that this symbolic support will give you calmness and strength to handle difficulties in life.
- Create a symbolic scope - Create a wide space in front of your bed. The bed position should allow you to have a perfect scope of vision of the whole room. A limited range of sight within the room can block the flowing chi and diminish your life's vision. The wider the space in front of your bed, the more broadly your perception of life expands and improves. Being able to see the entrance to your bedroom also symbolizes that you are in command of your own life and feel confident to face whatever life is bringing.
Don'ts
- The Death Position - Don't position your bed in line with the door. (See the above picture.) In other words, your feet should not point directly to the door while sleeping. This bed position, according to feng shui practitioners, is the "Death Position," as in Chinese culture the deceased is carried out feet first. It is a feng shui no-no. By having your bed face the door directly, you will be too exposed to excessive chi, which accordingly will bring too much energy, stress, negative influences and health problems.
- Stagnation from the foot - Avoid placing the foot of your bed against a wall. A footboard, in feng shui, is also considered "a chi blocker." It is said to cause stagnation and obstruct progress in your career.
- Overhead gadgets can create restlessness - Don't position your bed right under a ceiling fan, overhead beam, skylight or the low side of a slanted ceiling. These features, feng shui gurus claim, if placed directly above the bed will create a lot of depressing energy that can cause restlessness while you sleep.
- Don't throw the chi out the window - Avoid placing the head of your bed right under a window. Unlike a wall, a window does not provide the sense of safety and support. It can cause a fitful sleep and drain away your chi throughout the night, making you feel exhausted in the morning despite just having had a long night of sleep.
- Don't lose the chi from down under - Avoid putting the mattress on the floor. Sleeping directly on the floor, in feng shui practice, is not recommended. As I have mentioned, feng shui is all about keeping the chi flowing freely between objects in your bedroom. The gap between your mattress and the floor, therefore, will allow the chi to circulate below you.

Feng Shui Tips: How to choose a bed
Object Placement
- Ward off yang energy - Do not keep your television, computer or exercise equipment in your bedroom. These things can create an overflow of yang energy, which keeps you awake and agitated at night. In feng shui practice, a bedroom is supposed to be the place for quietness, peace and intimacy. So keep away all the electronic devices that may interrupt your peacefulness. Try to shut off the stresses of the day when you step into your bedroom. If you feel like you really want to have a computer or T.V. in your bedroom, you should place a folding screen between your bed and the computer desk or T.V. stand. Hanging a beautiful fabric from the ceiling is another nice way to separate your relax space from the entertainment or work area.
- Two for two - If you want to improve your romance luck, you should put nightstands on both sides of your bed. Use them as your shrines of love. Accessorize them with things that come in a pair. For example, a pair of candles, mandarin ducks or little vases of fresh flowers. Having two or three books on your nightstands is all right, but don't overload them with piles of books or thick files you bring back from work. These things can ruin your mood for intimacy.
- Open your eyes to a sight of inspiration - Hang your favorite piece of art on the wall opposite your bed so that it will be the last thing you see before you go to sleep and the first thing you perceive after you wake up. Try to choose an art piece that inspires you or represents your goal in terms of success, love life or spirituality.
- Avoid reflections of problems - Don't place a mirror near or opposite the bed. It is believed to reflect all your concerns and worries, bounce around too much energy and accordingly keep you awake at night. Some feng shui masters even say that positioning a mirror opposite your bed will invite an unwanted third party into your relationship. If you don't want to remove a mirror from your bedroom, try to cover it with a light fabric when it is not used.
- Green corner - From a feng shui perspective, plants are associated with growth, progess and rebirth. Placing a little plant in a corner of your bedroom, therefore, is believed to prevent the chi from stagnation.
- Space under the bed - Don't store anything under your bed because that will block the flow of chi. You should always keep it clear and clean. Your life can get pretty messy if under you bed, there is another bed of dust balls.
- Erase bad memories - Fung shui practitioners believe that every object obsorbs positive and negative energy from our past. Therefore you should get rid of things that are associated with bad memories or at least do not keep them in your bedroom, the place where you are supposed to leave all your worries behind. When it comes to a mattress, every feng shui guru will tell you the same thing: you should never buy a used one. You would never know to whom it belonged or whether somebody died in it. In fact, you should buy a new mattress every few years and give it a few good hours of sunshine every few months.

Interesting ! Looks like I need to change a few things !
Very nice hub. One question though: where is the best place to hang the midgets cage? Should he face east or west?
I loved this. I live in a bedroom in my parents house while i'm saving up to buy my own place, and space is a challenge for me. These kinds of tips are very helpful for me to get things right, and to get good ideas for what I can do with my own space.
This is a GREAT hub! I've been trying to get better at the art of feng shui and this has certainly helped put me in the right direction. Thank you for such an informative piece!
Very good info, as I'm trying to think of how to redecorate my tiny bedroom. I love the color green, which is what I was planning to paint...But, I have a question, what is your opinion about putting the bed diagonally in the corner opposite the door?? Is it ok as long as there is a headboard??
Hello, my bedroom awaits you.
Sorry, where are you located?
Also Bed position according to Vastu (Indian belief) can be considered.
Hi dear it seema that u belong to india. Anyways, very intersting hub. I have raed many articles of your all are very intersting. Good Keep it up Dear........
Hi just found this hub. Thanks for the great advice. One question -my bedroom is on the upper floor of an older house (100) and the walls follow the roofline so two walls are slanted above the four foot mark. The only place to put a bed is against one of those walls. The doorway falls on the side of the bed near the foot area so it faces across which is not too bad. The headboard faces North which I understand is good. My concern is that from just above the headboard the roof slants up which I think think would mean that energy could flow down the roof line onto the bed? Is there any remedy for that? I did have a dream catcher hanging on the ceiling above the bed where the slant began would that be a good thing or not? I am not a good sleeper so am looking for any help I can get. Thanks
Great tips. I believe in Feng Shui but too lazy to remember complicated rules. One time I actually followed a TV program and moved my bed to a different spot of my bedroom then my husband got a terrible nightmare the night. I then switched the sleeping place with his and I got a nightmare next night, too. It is a big deal and need to be very careful if you are moving your bed to a different spot of the room. I guess the general foamular of Feng Shui somehow doesn't exactly work for everyone due to "people" are one of the factor that affects the result.
Hi. Our marital bed 's footboard is agains the wall that has a window(with window blinds), and the headboard is not against the wall. Also the bed is accessible to one side only. And 2 meters from the headboard there is a big vintage mirror hanging on the wall. I know it's bad feng shui. But it is so impossible to rearrange the bed. If I do rearrange it, then the head board would be against the wall which divides the bedroom and the bathroom. Do you have any suggestions on what fengshui cures I could make? Thanks
Hi. I don't think it is possible to move the bed, not even slightly, to make it accessible to both sides...Is there any thing ( a charm ) to treat or cure that? With regards to the mirror, I am considering your suggestion to remove the mirror...But I have read in one site that a a mirror in the bedroom should be covered with fabric at night so it will not cause any negative effect on us. What is your opinion about that? Thanks again.
Thanks for your advice. I will now secure a fabric to cover the mirror at night. Thanks :)
It seems I have no choise but to have my bed under a window. Can you recommend a feng shui cure that will keep the chi?
hi. most of the rules in here are already in my room jus purely because my room can only fit things in one way. as for dividing the room for soem things- i got a teeny teeny box room and to divide it would make moving in it impossible- i need a tv in there... and the thing that is somewhere bout l-shaped rooms... the floor is an l and the ceiling a square (the box was cut halfway down to make more room) what do you make of that?
good to know i can solve my bed-by-window problem...
HI!!! My question is...I have a tree 5feet from the entrance of my home, then you walk in to the stairs that let up to my home. What can I do to cure this problem? Thank you so much
Thank you sooo much for the tips!! I have another question if I may. I'm not sure I fully understand the whole Element circle when it comes to decorating. I understand the philosophy of it but am afraid that when I decorate I will be setting up a bad cycle. How do I know if there is too much of one thing or does it matter what part of the room I put each element? For instance, My livingroom consist of a lot of Water, Metal, and Wood. Is this bad?
Thank you soooo much!!!
Hi, Im newly married and have moved to my husband's house 5 months ago. From the day one Im not getting good sleep in this house. I suspected about mental stress and i tried my best to keep my mind relaxed. Its been months since I had a deep sleep. Wihout which Im unable to be active at work, not able to concentrate and my life, career, relationships are getting impacted. Even after 5 or 6 hours after going to bed, i wont be asleep. I will be always be alert. I get frustrated and helpless. My husband thinks it could be because of the Vastu problem. Could any of you give me some Fengshui tips to induce good sleep if its because of vastu problem. Hoping to get a resolution soon. Thanks.
hi...i gona movie house soon...can i have some tips about gud feng sui for bedroom, do i need to see the direction earth, south or west for placing my bed n my sleeping position? and it is ok if my leg be facing toilet door?
OMG my bed is opposite my door and if i have my head against the wall my feet will be facing the door and if i have my feet against the wall my head will be opposite the door! I am in the Death Position and I can't move my bedroom around at the moment because we are having our house redone! What do I do?!
hi, our headboard is against the wall of the toilet. Actually our bed is in between two toilets (fm other room too). Can we put our bed on the opposite side but the other side will be directly from the bedroom door. please help.. can we send you a diagram of our flat on email so that you can see how it is?
I bought new bedroom furniture almost 1 yr. ago (which I have yet to assemble) and the bed frame has both a head and footboard. What can I do to keep the footboard from obstructing positive chi?
Thanks in advance!
One more question-sorry!! I currently sleep on a cot, which is positioned parallel to the wall where my room door is located and I lay on it so that my head is in line with the door. Is this position as bad as the so-called Death position? Thanks again!
...I thought of one more question(this is my last one, I promise!!) I only bought one nightstand with my bedroom set, which has been discontinued, so buying another one is not an option. What can I do to create a sense of balance on the side of the bed without the nightstand?
Hi, just want to say I like your hub and I think it is wonderful that you are so diligent and helpful in answering people's questions. Keep up the good work!
Hi. Im moving to a new apartment next month where all the items are already set and fixed. Based on all your advise and the direction of energies, it is hard to follow everything. What can you advise to correct some position issues? Thanks.

Hi Om, What should I do to fix the Feng Shui in my bedroom. My feet are point directly to the bedroom door, my head is support by the wall. I can't really move my bed in the bedroom due to space issue. What should I do? If I put my head to the bedroom door, then I would not be able to see the door when I'm in bed which I believe is not a good Feng Shui as well. Thank you for your help.
Wondering about a Captains bed. We have just gotten a brand new Captains bed that has no way for the chi to get under the bed. Is there a cure for that?
I love your colour guide here. They can really render a room, lace it with peace of mind. Great stuff you have here. I'm into home improvement myself.
Wow, another great Hub about Feng Shui. My bed is in the most favorable position so that's great. Both my husband and I can't seem to get enough rest and I am thinking maybe there is too much black in our bedroom. We have a black bed frame, black candle holders, black curtains on the window and our bedding has black in it as well ....could this be the source of our prolems? Thanx.
Excellent hub! It's a great read.
Is it bad if my apartment entrance door facing direct to my neighbour entrance door (within 12 ft length)?
I was wondering if you could help me to rearrange my room. My room isn't too big but i need to know, right now i have my bed near my closet and my dresser against the wall near the foot of my bed which is also next to my bedroom door, how could i move things around so it will be easier for the chi to flow. and also i have a large buddha statue from Japan, he is standing holding a bowl in each hand, and his hands up in the air, can you tell me what he represents and where to place him for better chi, as well? And my daughters crib may need to go in my room as well, Please HELP ME?!
My grandmother had the buddha statue in her dinning room for 20+ years. guess she knew better then me. . .lol, thanks and I will try some of your suggestions.
My wife is consistently talking about changing the "atmosphere" and "balance" in our bedroom. I'll be sure to point her to this article about "how to Feng Shui" the bedroom.
Thanks for sharing this information!
You did a really nice job of making a complex subject interesting, understandable and fun! The best part about Feng Shui is that it does not have to be perfect, and it can be a lot of fun. Nice hub!
Hi. how about if I have a built in mirror headboard in my bed? Is that a bad fengshui?
I want to ask if this kind of bed has bad energy or not good in fengshui? here's the link of the bed. what do you think?
http://www1.thebrick.com/brickb2c/jsp/catalog/prod
thanks
i mean just the wall bed without the mirror and dresser. thanks
I love the green and blues bedroom! :) I am a yin hehehe thank you for this enlightening hub.
Hahahahah Sometimes I can be out of balanced and be a yang... you know... :) I bookmarked your hub and will probably dish out an interview regarding feng shui for our website one of these days :)
Hi. I would just like to inquire about fengshui in bedroom. I wanted to know if you know any good luck charms that can be used as fengshui to increase fertility chance of married couple that can be display inside the bedroom or any part of the house?
Any ideas is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
Fabulous article!
Om, thank you... this is great information and I am going to bookmark this hub as we are currently remodeling "the money pit" and can use all the chi and balance we can muster.
great read...
Hey thanks, this was really helpful. I'm still not exactly sure where the best place for my bed is. Is it ok for your feet to be pointing towards the wall where the door is, as long as you aren't directly in line with it? Or should it be pointing a different direction altogether? And does it matter what gua the head of the bed is in??
we have 3 doors in a straight line starting from the living room till the bedroom.have read that this is not good.any remedy?
Quick question - the comment about the bed not facing a door. Is it any door or just the door that leads to the hall? The bed might face a bathroom door. Is that ok? If it's not ok, which positioning would be better? The bed facing the bathroom door or the bed facing a set of windows but you'll see the bed immediately once you enter the bedfroom? Both situations would have the bed against a wall. Thanks for your advice.
Hi Om, good day to you...to make things short, i'm almost done with my new home being build and i need your hand or advise from you for the proper positioning of every pieces if this is applicable in feng shui or not because based from what i read on other articles i got a lot of problems being encounter. If you don't mind i can send over you my house layout to have me an idea of do's and don'ts. Thanks and you can email me here; jarcay2000@yahoo.com
Hey...really nice hub. Yin and Yang explained in details with do's and don'ts that are really 'doable'. Thanks. Came across something similar called Vaasthu which I think is practised in India if am not mistaken. Guess all Eastern nations have some method of energy manipulation.
This is a complete note for feng shui. Nice post!
Hi om, I'm about to move to a condo in 3 weeks. The master bedroom has a bathroom and also, a sink and a mirror inside the bedroom. For the placement of the bed, I can only see it under a window and in line of the door. There's no other way I can move the bed. Is there a cure for the window and bed in line of the door? Are there any crystal cures such as hanging a crystal between the door and the bed? Please advise as this is the only position I cab place the bed in the room. You can also email me at evoxiris@gmail.com. Thank you so much.
Hi Om, thanks so much for you response on my email and it really helps a lot. A really nice hub. Sorry for late response as I'm busy a couple of weeks ago.
Hi Om, interesting nice hub and i have a quick question for you maybe you can help me on this matter. my house is located at the center of a "Y" shape intersection road and since we transfering on this home we encounter a lot of problems in health and financially....any remedy do's and don'ts...thanks
Om, Thanks so much
I am moving into an apt you walk in to the left is a walkin closet, center across from door a window, and on the same wall in right hand corner is a bathroom. I can put my bed as in your example above but then I have the opening to bathroom across from me. I heard this is not good. So I was going to put the head of my bead against the wall you come in which would then have the head of bed between the entrance and bathroom and the window at the foot of bed. Know after reading I am not sure what I should do. Can you please advice!?! Thanks so much
Oh, I just really enjoyed this hub! My room is black, white, purple and gray so I am happy to know my colors are balanced and my bed is positioned appropriately according to your diagram. I am however, storing some animal fur balls under my bed it appears.....I need a Roomba. Thanks for this hub..I will check out some others!
Very informative website! I actually need some advice, my bed is postioned so my feet faces the door as well as 2 other closet doors (on either side of the bedroom door) and there is no way in postioning the bed elsewhere. In addiion, I have a slanted ceiling (triangular shape), and my bed is positioned directly underneath it in the middle of the highest point with the line running own center of bed. Is that ok? Please help ! Thanks!!
Hi my wooden bed headboard I have placed against a wall but it has an air-conditioner above it is this ok? also at the end of the bed I have french doors where my feet face it, as I have heard that feet at the door is no good but I love the view and the fresh air at night in summer I like the doors open is this ok? On the right of me is my bedroom entrance door, Is it ok the way I positioned my bed???? please help me thanks
Great hub!I practiced feng shui a few years ago and it seemed to make a difference. This was especially true with the arrangement of my grand daughter's room.
I loved this article! I have a book on Feng Shui that was nowhere near as helpful.
What a great hub! I will bookmark it:) I actually have a question as well, where does brown color stand? Our bedroom is mainly brown (lots of wood) or beige... Is it Yin or Yang color?
Thanks! I have blue bed covers, so I suppose that is fine... I always felt I would like more color in the room, I was thinking of something red, but now I see that wouldn't be wise:) thanks for your advice!
Great Hub. I have heard that a room with lots of color is good for happiness and your overall wellbeing.
Hi... above my bed, there is sometimes build in like shelves. I do not know how to decsribe it.It's like a place i can put some decoration or books. it's above my bed.(the head)Do u think this is consider as a beam? This is build on the wall when i get married. Pls advice asap. Thanks.
Thanks for your reply. Yes.. it's a wall mounted shelf. So i do not need to worry about it? Coz it's really above my head when i sleep.
MY BED HAS WATER BED FRAME WHICH HAS DRAWERS UNDERNEATH, CANT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW ONE @ THE MOMENT WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THAT.
I'm not sure how much I believe in Feng Shui, but I switched the position of my bed after reading this article.
Very interesting Om. I have red and gold in my bedroom. I guess that says a lot about me. Oh, and my bed is not in the feet first position. Great information.
I loved your article Om! I am planning to rearrange the room, de-clutter and paint a neutral color. The bed seems to be in a good position and I will be taking down the mirror, cleaning out under the bed and I've bought a pair of night stands, but there is a light fixture over the bed that I can't remove or get the bed away from, it's positioned more towards the foot of the bed. How can I counter act the negativity of this? We do have a pair of small lights on either side of the bed too to create softer light. Also, the edges of the night stand are squared...any way to balance out the cutting chi? Thanks!
I am renovating my bedroom soon and will be removing the carpeting. Due to allergies I am going to be putting down a wood floor. Thinking of using a beige color on 3 walls and a soft blue or green on the 3rd. The placement of my bed is good (diagonally across the room from the door and against a solid wall, but it is under a slightly sloped ceiling and I have a metal headboard. Any suggestions?
The 4th wall will be soft blue or green... sorry!
We did a new addition with a bedroom loft. The loft is open and there is a skylight and a ceiling fan above the bed! There is no room to move the bed away from the ceiling fan or the sky light. What can I do? The skylight has a blind but it still is sunken into the ceiling.
I am expecting a new baby In June and have my bedroom at the end of a hallway. I originally had the crib in our room right by the Death Position. I have since in preparation for the baby placed the crib elsewhere and removed mirrors. But with the hallway should I sleep with the door closed. Or will hanging pictures in the hall really slow down the fast chi. I saw this somehwere else but you seem to be more thorough..So fascinated by Feng Shui now. How long until I might notice a difference in my sleep do you think?
Hi Om Paramapoonya! I saw your hub on my sidebar! I couldn't help but click as this has held my interest for some time. I rented several documentary dvd's on the subject and learned that even Donald Trump had one of his strip malls designed by a Fung Shui master! Everything he does seems to turn out good monetarily so I don't doubt it had any problems lol :)
Anyway, strange that before I even rented the dvd's I had already picked out a light green and a darker green, and had a "outdoor" type them I wanted to go into. Right down to already getting the green sheets and a Safari type bedspread. Before I could finish I was injured, and not only could I not finish the room, but I cannot lay flat on my back. The room is set up strangely though. Not at all like your photos. It's rectangle, and the door is in the middle! I already had the head of my bed at one end and the dresser with mirror on the side. It too is green, although several people have argued with me it is brown. (I have a colorblind uncle, but they say females cannot be, but I still see a green dresser)lol! Anyway, I never keep anything under the bed either, but it's been about 5 years and I'm almost able to be able to sleep on my bed again. Since I already have the green paints and things to make it so much more like outdoors, I am wondering about the ceiling. I am going to put a ceiling fan in, but it wouldn't be over the bed anyway, so my question is, do you think a light blue would be good for my ceiling? I've already considered it, and the only white I want to be the door frame and window frames.
I also have already no electronic devices at all in my bedroom because my doctor had told me years ago, that we should never bring everyday things into our rooms, to leave them out. And to never do NON related sleep things in the room like play a game or work, or tv. Those are for the rooms they belong in, and he was not into Fung Shui he just said it was good practice to keep our minds in the mind frame that "bedrooms are for REST and SLEEP." What do you think about a light blue for a ceiling? Thank you for a response, I've always had sleep problems so I'm trying anything new that would be helpful. Thanks. -Kathy
Sawadee ka!
I totally agree with the rest of readers and fans of your article. Your article is indeed very useful and informative. Most importantly is that you are so helpful and responds actively to all those who have submitted their comments :) Do keep up the good work!
Meanwhile, I do have a few queries in need of your advice/feedback:
1. My bed is positioned right under the ceiling fan and unfortunately there is no possibility of me moving the bed. How can this fengshui flaw be countered?
2. The foot of my bed faces my wardrobe which has 3 sliding doors. I can't place any fixtures between the foot of my bed and the wardrobe as the space is merely 1ft wide :( Please help.
3. My wardrobe door is not exactly of mirror finishing however it's of tinted acrylic door finishing. Is this considered bad?
I hope you are able to give me some good advice on the above and thank you in advance!! :)
Hi. We're moving into a new apartment and I want to know the best way we can "feng shui" the bedrooms.
Masters: when you enter the room, on the left side of the room is a bathroom and next to that is a walk-in closet = 2 doors; on the wall opposite the doorway is a window (not directly facing the door. It looks like the best place to put our full-sized bed would be on the wall facing the bathroom and walk-in closet doors.
Bedroom #2: My mom (grandma) and our baby are sharing this room. Grandma has a bed with cabinet storage underneath (no headboard). Baby has a crib. Both beds are white. The door to their room is at the end of the short hall, there's a window on the wall opposite the door, window faces their walk-in closet. Can we position the crib perpendicular to grandma's bed? Their room is small.
Thanks.
Also, the bottom foot part of our bed is blocked coz we have this kind of bedframe: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/images/products/malm-bed
Reading from your past advice to similar problems of beds facing doorways, does that blocked frame bottom thing count as "something that comes between the bed and the door"?
Hi , Thanks for the intersting Article. I would really love to have a dressing table (with a big mirror) and I bought one and have placed it next(right hand side) of the Bed Headboard and that mirror faces the door of the Bedroom whereas the position of the Bed is really fine its diagonally opposite to Bedroom Entrance. But as per you Article , Mirror should not reside in Bedroom. Do I have any other alternatives for this.?
Hi, This is really an interesting and very helpful info.I have few queries and need your advice:
1. We recently moved to an apartment, bedroom is in southEast but we have a door at SouthWest. Can you please let me know if having door is a bad feng shui and do let me know what needs to be done to rectify this.
2. Is it bad feng shui that my apartment entrance door facing direct to my neighbour entrance door.
I also have a SE facing bedroom. Door in NW corner, north wall adjoins bathroom. Window on east wall, built in wardrobe on west wall(no doors on yet though). I am ready to decorate but need to incorporate a desk and my bed obviously! Possibility of including desk in the SW corner inside wardrobe but when doors open it would be directly facing the door. I want to re-start as a writer freelance- hence the desk. So bed on the north or south wall? Where should I put the desk and facing which way? Which colours would be good? Very confused!! Please can you help me?
Unfortunately there is nowhere else for a desk. I was thinking of putting it in the NE corner facing E, therefore facing the door but kind of behind it as it opens(albeit 8 feet away), and also screening it from the bed when I'm sleeping?
Hi! This is a very informative site. I would really appreciate getting some advice from you regarding:
1) the placement of my daughter's bed: sharing the same wall as the door or putting it under the window? I only have these 2 choices, which one is better?
2) The main door of my house faces the side of the staircase. Is this bad? Thank you so much for your help!
Hi! I just sent a question regarding the placement of my daughter's bed and here's additional information: putting the headboard under the window will give the bed a "command position" because it is diagonally across the door. But putting it on the same wall as the door will give it a solid wall support. Which one should I choose?
Hi Om, I love your home decor advice and tips. Feng Shui has always been too complicated for me so I have stayed away from it, but these tips are very easy. I can, at the very least, move out all the things that are under the bed!
I loved the information
need small changes to make
but the rest,is ok :)

Hi, my marriage are is missing fro the baqua map. What is the remedy for this? Many thanks.
Hello , my bed is facing south (legs pointing south) i have heard that the bed should be on the south wall and you should face northwards while sleeping , but if i change my bed for the headboard to be on the southwall i am in the same wall as the door frame and i cant see the door if anyone is entering , what do you suggest.
Hi, My hubby is having some career problems. He is not getting good job offers. Pls suggest some remedies. His DOB is actually 11/5/59, but as he was born on 11th May at 11.30 pm, his DOB officially is 12/5/59. Our main entrance is facing North. Small passage connecting the entrance and hall. On the right hand side of the passage, on the east side, there is kitchen. next to the hall, we have our bedroom with attached bathroom. as per bagua, career area is our kitchen. Next to career, i.e self understanding area is missing. Please advice some simple and effective changes.
Dear Om, Thank you sooooo much for the reply. After reading your article, I have made some changes i.e I have put one small waterfall with lamp in the career area i.e my kitchen. I have started getting enquiries or atleast a reply stating that they have received the CV. My worry is the distance between the lamp and my gas burner is just one feet away. Will it effect my hubby's career opportunities? Is placing a running horse facing the main entrance a good symbol for success? We have a french glass window of 8 feet high and 6 feet broad in the fame area. Please suggest some remedy. Please tell where should I place the bamboo/i-ching coins, fish figues etc (North, east, west or south).
Hi,read some of your articles.I am confused of a house that we built in our land, having problems ever since, financially on that house, lots of money being wasted.Me the lady not able to stay in that house in peace, always problem, when I go there for holidays.Land is South facing, built house leaving space in fornt and back for garden.side entrance from West.everyone likes the design of my house,me too,but i wonder what is wrong.
We would like to seek your advice on how we should position our bed.
East wall is shared with toilet but toilet bowl is not attached to the same wall.
North wall is used up by the built in cabinet.
South wall - window opening. As my husband n myself belongs to East group (Kua 1 & 3) we have placed the headboard of our bed on the East wall. Please advise if this is alright.
hey (i am in 11 class) i have a light pink color wall just in front of my study table and to my rite there is the door and on my left there is a big size window.. my tube light is placed on the wall at top .
is every thing okay ..if no than what should i do if i really want haigh energy ,motivation ,energy in my life
Hi, I am a bit confused. How should I divide my house i.e octagen shape(bagua map) or should i divide my entire flat into 9 equal parts? which corner is helpful people corner? If I want to find out my career corner, according to bagua map it will be North side. But if i divide my house into 9 equal parts, it will be somewhere in North-east direction. Please help.
Hmmm. I placed my bed right under my window meaning my head is right near the window. I actually sleep better and I'm having amazing dreams every night. Also being that my ceiling fan in in the middle of my room I have no choice but to sleep under it. Ahhh doesn't it feel great to prove these things wrong. Listen people, you don't have to follow these "rules." Many people are breaking this list and still get wonderful sleep and great energy.
Hi, If I divide my entire house into 9 equal parts, my entire fame area will open into glass sliding windows of my balcony. any remedy please? Can I stick red triangle pictures on that window? can i place chinese knife of 2 feet long on the career wall to boost my career or can it be placed on helpful friends area? Please suggest.
Dear Om:
Many thanks for this very useful hub. I also liked a lot the Small Bedroom ideas hub.
My house is very small, I live with some pack rat relatives who love clutter. My bedroom is tiny and my bed is almost immediately behind my desk, where I work about 10 hours per day.
Since I started working at home I am less productive than when I worked in a real office and need way more time finishing a task than before. I get distracted easily and can't focus at all. A friend suggested Feng Shui, so here I am and I'm glad to find this good stuff ;-) I thought about a folding screen in order to hide the view of the desk from the bed, but probably there isn't enough space for one. Can I put books, documents and other things in trays under the bed? (can't have a loft bed and here it's a very earthquake-prone country, so the trays would be a good alternative). Could you please give me a little bit more of advice on how to apply Feng Shui in this case? Thanks a lot in advance.
Hiya OM, I love your advice - well done!
Is a dreamcatcher on the wall my bed is against ok feng shui? Also, there is no other place to move my bed, it faces the window but the head part is in path of door.
Much peace - Claire May
Wow, this is great so much interesting information. Thank you. How do closets figure into any room set up? Or, perhaps I mean, what do they symbolize (e.g., need a closet on the career side be counter-acted in any way?). Are crystals universally good at counter acting interrupted flow? Also in a child's room, what does the chid section symbolize?
Hi OM, I just moved into a new place, and am still rearranging my bedroom. I have read somewhere that it's not really a good idea to have your headboard on the same side as a door, but that is how my bed is arranged right now. I made a diagram below to show how my current bedroom is arranged. I am wondering if it would be better if I just move my bed on the opposite wall, feet facing East. My worry is that to my left would be the door to the balcony, and I'm not sure if that would be okay. I will have a better view of the main entrance to my bedroom door though, which I currently cannot see well because it is on the same side as my bed. I also have a desk that I am planning on moving to face the window, but it is currently lying against the bathroom wall. Please advice me on what would be best.

Here is a link to a screen cap of the image I made on the text box though:

If that doesn't work, I'll just reiterate:
Right now, my headboard is on the east, facing west. To my right is the window. On the same side as the window is a door to the balcony. In front of me is a blank wall. On the same side of the wall where my bed is currently against, is the main door to my bedroom. To the direct left of my bed is the closet. Upon entering the room, you face the bathroom door, only it is slightly to the right, and the closet previously described, is to the left.
I hope that is detailed enough, and thank you in advanced!
My basic question is: Will it be okay to have the bed facing east, but with the door to the balcony to the left side of my bed? There does not seem to be that many options for me :(
Hi Om. Many thanks for the answer :-) I don't have problems with sleeping, but I do have problems with productivity and lack of concentration. Yep, probably I have to get those wall shelves.
Reiko gave me a good idea: I will post the pic to a diagram of my bedroom-office in case you would like to analyze it and comment more; I'm sure that many people have the same problem of having to use a small bedroom as their home office. I don't know how to upload it here, so the link is: http://oi41.tinypic.com/6qdzib.jpg
Thanks again!
Hi there, Ist bad luck to have bedroom color dark brown?
Thank for advice :)
Im so happy now. I just painted my bedroom wall dark brown, I got told by fengshui guy that is bad luck to have dark brown color in my bedroom, he said that it will make me sick in the
future.
He said that dark brown color is too hot for the bedroom. Is not good for health especially for women. I'm so stress, what should i do??
Hi, can i use puzzle mirror (consist of many small mirror) or few small mirrors at dining wall to reflect wealth of food? If my wall mounted air-conditioner under my sofa in living room? Do i have solution for this?
Thats a great idea. Thanks so much for the advice :))
Hi there... this is a great website with many information and they are useful.
However, can I also enquire that is it good to have a small potted plant in the bedroom as I heard it is good?
Also can the foot of the bed face a window? If that is the only position I can place my bed... What can I do to counter if it is a bad placement?
I have window on the north direction and my bed is under the window. My feet faces the two closet doors. Should I have feet towards the closet, or just have feet under the window?
today..a tortoise came inside my house,,at the porch to be precise..is it a good sign?
What a fascinating article! I'm going see what I can do to improve the feng shui in my bedroom. Thank you for the excellent hub--voted it up.
Hi there, I have my front door facing towards my back door a bit! What should I do ?
Hi there, so I just positioned my bed diagonal last night and my heads about a foot from the window with no headboard and is this a concern? I woke up feeling untrested and drowsy all day but it could be just a cooincidence...I had my head parallel to my door would this have been better?
the foot of my bed is facing the door of the bathroom and bedroom door. I have a king size bed and could not re-arrange the position bec. the room is small. I have a partner but decided to sleep on the other room. Relationship has failed and we are just roommates. We have moved together in this townhouse 11 months ago. About 3 months ago I placed a divider on the foot of my bed facing the door. Before that I was always sick. Can there be a cure for my failed relationship. And having the divider on foot of the bed a good idea.
Well i have to share a room with my sister and i don't have a lot of room in my bedroom. And so my feet are facing my closet door it that ok or not? And also my roof is slanted and i am underneath the lower part is that ok or not?And also there is baskets under my bed but i don't have any room to move the baskets out from under my bed so what do i do about that.
Hi Om,
Your hub is very inspiring! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us :-) I live in a one bedroom apartment where the kitchen leads into the bedroom and the bedroom leads into the bathroom. I have two questions for you: 1. In bed our feet are facing the wall of the bathroom and the toilet is directly behind that wall - is that bad feng shui? 2. As you walk into my bedroom I have a mirror that reflects the stove in the kitchen - is that bad feng shui? Thanks so much!
Hi, the sight is very useful. Where can I keep a table fan in bedroom. We don't hav ceiling fan. For now, the fan is at the northwest side, on the left side of the bed.
Hello I am trying to improve my romance. I am kua number 1 so I need to be facing South . My bed is currently on the North wall of my bedroom . If I put my bed in South position my feet will be facing north wall with no door and head will be alligned with my bedroom door approx 180 cm away. Is it worth doing as I really want to improve my romance. Thank you
Hello,
I am living in one room included bathroom inside. I have pretty much everything in my room. Any suggestion? Like you said no TV in the bedroom etc..
Thank you soo much!
Hi, we're renting a family friends'house my mattress is directly lying on the floor since I didn't bring the other half of the bed due to lack of space. When we sleep our head is towards the wood cabinet and our feet is directly facing the window we also have a bathroom inside the bedroom. I noticed since we moved in the house our expenses is like overflowing and there's no money left even after paydays. It seems we have unending bills of payments and I never get to save any penny. Please advise me what to do...
Can you keep bamboo in your bedroom?
Hi Om, What does heading or facing to a certian direction on fengshui mean? should we sleep with our head or our feet on that direction?? Thanks for ur time..
hi om, i am going to re arrage my bed, cos i realise that the head of my bed is facing the unlucky direction for my kua (8), however my room have a problem, my room have 2 doors n a 2 panel window.
here is my current bedroom bed layout..

i am having a headache where to place the bed, wanted to head face west.. but it will be bed head under window
any advice is greatly appreciated
thanks
Thank you for the kind advice. . Appreciate it. Will make the changes n see if things feel better
This was a very helpful hub. Though I still have a few questions. I've heard that keeping a water fountain in the bedroom is bad luck and will make you worry. I for one find the sound of water very relaxing and it helps drown out the sound of the road beside the house. Would it still be bad to keep one? Also do you know what should I do if there is a huge window in the way. I'm trying to put a sort of bookshelve in the knowledge section but the windows in the way. I could put it the corner put then it would be in the area next to the knowledge area. (Forgot it)
Thanks in advance!
Hi Om,
So in regards to feng shui, it seems my bedroom layout is extremely problamatic. I currently sleep in the box room, which means I am a little tight on space. I've uploaded an image below, just so you can get an idea of what it currently looks like atm.
http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i336/viola2889
So Image 1, is the way my bedroom currently is. As you can see part of my head would lay under the window when I sleep, which isn't exactly great.
Image 2, is basically an option if I were to rearrange the bed position. One big plus is that there would be more space in the room. But as you can see, I'd still be laying partly beneath the window, and the foot head would touch the wall. Also I know that if the bed is directly aligned with the door, it's not ideal. But does the same apply to this layout, even though it's not in the death position, the feet/legs are still visible, well the sides of them?
Another option was buying a futon, but the only problem is if turned into a bed, it wouldn't have a headboard, plus I don't know how comfortable they really are. But it would mean there would be more space!
Apologies for the lengthy post, but I'd appreciate the advice. :)
Hi Im hoping u can help me with my sleeping arrangement, my kau is 9 though my head position is north & the headboard is against the toilet wall, i can't place my bed any were else r i will be under a window or facing the door is there anything i can do to improve my sleep & life ?
The foot of my bed is facing the bathroom door. Is this the same as pointing to the exiting door of the bedroom. Does this mean that I am going to be going to the bathroom all night? LOL
Thank you for your feedback however if i place my bed under the window i will have a slope in the ceiling on either side coming down till bed hight i will also have a wall which faces me me now that excludes out for the chimney that has pointing corners however my furniture is all pine my bed has a big headboard & a small footboard, i have 2 units a wardrobe & 2 bedside cabinets with matching lamps i also have a budda that burns insence a glass bowl full of different crystals & an angel with a crystal hanging at my window although the direction important sleeping in now is north which is not a direction i suddenly be facing in the year ahead so any suggestions?
Hello I have the problem with my bed sharing a wall with the bathroom this is my only position for sleeping is there any cures for this?
pls let me know my kids rooms furniture is in pulple and pick colour can i use yellow in wall colour.and in bed room can i use orange in east wall?
I would be interested in some more science behind this. Maybe some case studies. I have really mixed feeling towards the notion of feng shui.
On one side I think that there really is something to it. I know of chi and and have utilized it in martial arts in the past. But this seems a bit different, I never thought of my house having chi.
I'm not saying it isn't real. I'm just not a believer. Perhaps you have some experiments I could try to help convince me?

I am wondering if it is ok to have a mirror in the bedroom if it's not near the bed? Or would you advise against it all together?
Hi,
Our Masterbedroom door actually has 2 doors for closing. I read somewhere that 2 doors means one of the partners will mostly be away from home. My husband travels a lot on job & is available only in the weekends. We want him to have local projects so that he can spend more time with family. We bought a crystal chime to be hung in the pathway leading to the master bedroom. Are there any other suggestions? Thanks,
Which is more acceptable for bed placement: Putting it against the wall, so the headboard is on the same wall as the door, or across the room, so the headboard is on the far wall from the door, but in the opposite corner where the side of the bed would be under a window?
Hi Om,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I am new to this hubpages & found it interesting & informative. I have started incorporating fengshui at our home. If I have any more questions, I will write to you.

Hello, I live in a one bedroom apartment and i would like to apply feng shui in my living room only.. The problem is that my living room is combined with my kitchen so that the east wall corner is missing as well as my wealth corner (SE).. Can i feng shui my bedroom with just the SE and SW or is it bad if I apply incomplete feng shui in my living room..

Asiangirl22
hello, im single and moving to a new house, is it good feng shui to have a double bed with no bedside tables? can i still find my future partner.
thanks
The headboard of my bed is right behind bathroom. Is it good or bad?
Yes. Unfortunately, I have toilet and sink right behind that wall. And I cannot change the bed to any other direction since south is my best and favourable position for bed as per feng shui and right now my bed is setup in such a way that I put my head towards south (which is right behind the toilet and sink :( ). So, do you suggest any remedies/alternatives for this one?
sir, i am having a bedroom in the southeast corner and its balcony facing the south side. I came to know that the bedroom in the southeast corner itself is not good according to fengshui rules and we are not suppose to keep the balcony in the south side. can you suggest some remedy for it? Thank you
Hi Om. I love your page. My bedroom is in the SW corner of my house. When I face into that room is my relationship also in the SW corner? The far right hand corner of my bedroom as I face in the door is the NW corner of the room? So would the relationship area be in the NW corner of a SW room? I cant figure this out.. Thank You! P.s. would you have any feng shui cure or remedy to repair a broken marriage? :( that is what I am trying to do..
