Copycat Burger King Recipes

By

I don’t go to fast food restaurants very often because I enjoy cooking my own food. Once in a while when I’m super busy, however, I drop by at Burger King or KFC. They are the only two fast food restaurants that I like for some reason. In this article, you will learn how to make some of the best sandwiches on the Burger King menu, plus their yummy onion rings and French toast sticks.

Some people might say, “What’s the point? If you cook it at home, then it’s not fast food anymore!” They might be right. BUT the biggest advantage of these copycat recipes is that you can make your “fast food” more nutritious. For example, you can use extra lean ground pork to make the breakfast sausage patties. Using olive oil spray can help reduce the amount of grease in your food. And most importantly, these copycat recipes involve baking instead of deep frying, the unhealthy method of cooking that fast food restaurants usually use.

Burger King Orginal Chicken Sandwich

This tasty chicken sandwich is a pretty good choice of lunch if you are on a diet or trying to avoid red meat. It is made of boneless, skinless chicken breast, lightly coated with crisp bread crumbs. It takes only about 10 - 15 minutes to bake the chicken. No grease. No mess. Plus, it cuts about 150 calories, compared to a chicken sandwich you buy from Burger King (which is deep fried.)

Ingredients

3.5 oz. boneless, skinless chicken breast

½ tbsp. all-purpose flour

½ tsp. garlic salt

Pinch of onion powder

Pinch of black pepper

1 egg white

1 tsp. milk

1 1/2 tbsps. dry bread crumbs

1 sesame seed sandwich roll

1 tsp. mayonnaise

1/2 cup chopped lettuce

Olive oil spray

Preparation

- Cut chicken breast into a 6″ × 3″ piece. (Save the scraps for another dish.)

- Mix flour, garlic salt and onion powder in a bowl. Add the flour mixture to the chicken and make sure it thoroughly coats the chicken. Refrigerate for about 10 – 15 minutes.

- Beat egg white and milk together in a bowl until smooth.

- Remove chicken from refrigerator.

- Dip chicken into the egg mixture, then dip into bread crumbs. The coating should be even and not too thick.

- Lightly grease a nonstick baking sheet with olive oil spray. Place chicken on it. Sprinkle chicken with black pepper.

- Bake in a preheated 450° oven for 6 - 8 minutes (or until the breading is crisp), then flip the chicken and bake for another 4 - 6 minutes.

- Meanwhile, toast the sandwich roll in a preheated skillet for 2 – 3 minutes.

- Put the roll bottom on a plate. Spread ½ teaspoon mayonnaise on it. Top with lettuce and chicken. Spread the other ½ teaspoon mayonnaise on the roll top. Flip it onto the sandwich. Enjoy your lunch!

Recipe for Burger King Tartar Sauce

Combine ¼ cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish and 2 teaspoons corn syrup in a bowl. Stir well. This should make about 1/3 cup tartar sauce and can be refrigerated for up to a month in an airtight container .

Burger King BK Big Fish

Fish is another good alternative for those of you who are on a diet. Burger King BK Big Fish can be prepared in less than twenty minutes just like the chicken sandwich above. The secret to the delightfulness of this sandwich is in the Burger King Tartar Sauce.

Ingredients

1 center-cut cod (about 3.5 oz)

1 egg white

1 tsp. milk

1 tsp. all-purpose flour

1 tbsp. dry bread crumbs

pinch of salt

1 hamburger bun

1 slice American cheese

½ cup chopped lettuce

1 tbsps. Burger King Tartar Sauce (recipe on the right)

Olive oil spray

Preparation

- Beat egg white and milk together until well blended.

- Combine flour and salt in another bowl. Mix well.

- Dip the fish into the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and then bread crumbs. Make sure they all coat the fish completely and evenly.

- Lightly spray a nonstick baking sheet with olive oil. Place the fish on the baking sheet.

- Bake in a preheated 450° oven for about 7 minutes (or until the breading is crisp). Flip the fish and bake for another 5 – 7 minutes.

- Meanwhile, toast the hamburger bun in a preheated skillet.

- Put the bun bottom on a plate. Top with fish, cheese, lettuce and tartar sauce. Flip the bun top  onto the sandwich. And voila, a very yummy meal!

Recipe for Burger King Breakfast Sausage Patties

Ingredients

7 oz. lean ground pork

3 tsps. maple syrup

2/3 tsp. salt

½ tsp. ground sage

¼ tsp. ground black pepper

½ tsp. onion powder

Preparation

Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix until well blended. Divide it into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a 4″ patty.

Burger King Enormous Omelet Sandwich

This is a star on the Burger King breakfast menu. If you worry about the calories, you may use 2/3 cup egg substitute instead of real eggs and eliminate the bacon. The recipe below can already help you cut down quite a few calories, though. Believe me you can eat this Enormous Omelet Sandwich without becoming enormous.

Ingredients

3 eggs

2 tbsps. milk

2 slices bacon

1 oval sesame seed sandwich roll

1 Burger King Breakfast Sausage Patty

2 slices American cheese

Preparation

- Beat eggs and milk together well. Pour the mixture into a large nonstick loaf pan (about 10″ × 5″ × 3″) and bake for about 10 – 14 minutes.

- Cook bacon and a sausage patty in a skillet over medium heat. (Cook bacon for 2 - 3 minutes and remove from heat before it turns crisp. Cook sausage patty for about 3 - 4 minutes on each side.)

- Toast the sandwich roll in a preheated skillet.

- Put the bun bottom on a plate.

- Cut the omelet in half and put one on the bun bottom.

- Cut the sausage patty in half and put both slices lengthwise over the omelet. (They may overlap a little.)

- Top with bacon, the other omelet half and cheese.

- Flip the bun top over the sandwich. Enjoy your breakfast!

Burger King Onion Rings

As for a side dish, we will skip the fries and have onion rings instead. Why? It's just my personal preference. Deep frying is not the only way to cook onion rings. Baking is a healthier way to prepare them, helps you save oil, and of course makes much less mess to clean up afterwards.

Ingredients

3 medium white onions

2 eggs

1 tbsp. milk

2 tbsps. dry bread crumbs

½ tsp. salt

olive oil spray

Preparation

- Cut onions into 1/3″ - thick slices and separate the rings. Choose about 15 rings that are of similar size.

- Combine bread crumbs and salt in a bowl. Mix well.

- Beat egg and milk in another bowl until smooth.

- Dip each onion ring in the egg mixture and then the bread crumb mixture.

- Arrange onion rings on a nonstick baking sheet that has been sprayed with olive oil.

- Bake in a preheated 400° oven for about 16 minutes (8 minutes on each side).

Hi, OM. Although I very seldom eat at fast food restaurants, Burger King is my favorite mainstream place. What fun to make a Burger King menu some night. I'll definitely have to try it!

Lots of fun!

Great idea -- and if you make it yourself, you know you're absolutely gonna "have it your way!" Thanks for the recipes. My son would love me to make him BK French toast sticks. Do you have that one? Thx, MM

I would like to have your recipe for Cheesy Tots

Om Paramapoonya 20 months ago

I don't have a recipe for cheesy tots. Sorry. :(

Recipe for Burger King Tartar Sauce?

Real mayo and real dill pickle. That is all you need. You can keep your corn syrup or anything else surgery. Tarter sauce should be tart as the name implies, not sweet.

Om Paramapoonya 20 months ago

Well, that's one way to make it. There're a great varieties of tartar sauce recipes. For Burger King, I think their tartar sauce is a tiny bit sweet. :)

Hi I was wondering if anyone could try to find the recipe for the cheesy tots that BK use to sell. I love those things and they have stopped selling them and I have been trying to find a recipe for them but haven't had any luck. Thanks for the help.

Om, you just happen to mention the one fast food restaurant that I actually like - Burger King. Thanks for sharing the recipes, I will definately try them. Rated up, useful and bookmarked.
