Cheap Local Gas Prices - How To Find Them FAST
79
Free websites that compare local gas prices have been around for many years, but now the offerings are becoming much more sophisticated, which allows you to be able to find the cheapest gas prices in your area much faster and more easily. The following gas-price search tools can help you save a lot of time and money with just a few clicks.
For Cellphones
Mobio Networks
Internet connectivity is already available on many cellphones. It is pretty convenient to use your cellphone to find cheap gas prices, especially when you are on the road and don't have your computer with you. Many of you probably have done that before. So what's the big deal with Mobio?
The answer is quickness and simplicity. With Mobio "Cheap Gas widget", you won't have to surf to a website and enter all the location information every time you look for a good gas price. The Cheap Gas widget allows you to enter several locations that you frequent (home, work, gym, grocery store, etc) and save each address with a "location tag" for future easy retrieval.
Let's say that you are planning to go to your gym right after work and will need gas along the way. You can start "GetMobio" from the "Applications" or "Games" menu on your cellphone, select "Cheap Gas" from the menu, choose the "gym" or "work" location tag from the drop down menu, and you are immediately told of the cheapest gas stations near your destination. You will also have the option of selecting a radius of 1, 3, or 5 miles from the "location tag," and all brands of gasoline or a specific brand that might be your favorite.
After deciding which gas station you'd like to go to, you can get a map of its exact location (with zoom in and zoom out option), which is very helpful, especially if you are in an area you don't know well.

For Mac Computers
Interdimension Media
Just last year, InterdimensionMedia.com has released a free gas-price widget, exclusively for Mac computers. You can monitor gas prices constantly from your computer without going to a separate web page, view all your preferred grades with multi-grade mode and get direct links to Google Maps to locate the gas station of your choice. Besides equipping you with the lowest and up-to-date gas deals, this application also provides the "Gas Gauge Tool" which can help you maximize your savings on gas. All you have to do is input your car mileage, gas-tank size and current fuel level information. Then the gauge will analyze how many miles you can drive on the remaining fuel and how much it will cost to fill up.
On The Web
MapQuest Gas Prices
This gas-price search tool can be really helpful for planning a long trip across town. The MapQuest Gas Prices application features:
- Hundreds of web pages that allow you to browse fuel types and prices, by state and city.
- Lists of all the gas stations that offer alternative fuels such as BioDiesel and E85 Ethanol, or electric charging stations for hybrid and electric cars.
- Gas Price Calculator, which allows you to input the distance to your destination, gas price from the station of your choice and the miles per gallon your car gets. Once you enter the required information, the calculator will give you an estimate of how much your whole trip will cost in terms of fuel. (Christian Dwyer, MapQuest senior vice president, says that he actually used this calculator to figure out that he'd better fly his family from Denver to San Diego this summer at about $600 for airfare, instead of spending $400 to drive there.)
- The actual latest gas prices. The MapQuest Gas Prices site is updated seven times a day to make sure that consumers will find the actual latest deals. Any price older than 48 hours will no longer appear in the search results.

Politicians in Australia have come up with a marvellous scheme known as "Price Watch".
Petrol stations will have to publish their prices 24 hours in advance - and not be allowed to change them.
In reality, all this will do is prevent the petrol stations from engaging in their current practice of having discounting wars, and make fuel more expensive.
Regular unleaded is currently about $1.63 per litre in Australia, and diesel fuel is around $1.85 per litre. So we're suffering more than you guys :)
Some great ideas and tools here. It pays to check them, not only because it saves your money but is also good for the environment. Thumbs up!
very good info....I hate having to shop for gas After I rob the bank!
Are you hitting on me ( sucking in gut while blushing)
great article! thanks for the info, finding cheap gas is tough these days :)
Sometimes an app on my Droid can find these, but you need to be careful. Sometimes by the time you get to the station, the rates have gone up.
Helpful hub! Thank you for sharing.
