Being diabetic is never easy. Visiting your doctor once a month and taking medications consistently might not be enough. You should also keep track of your condition, plan your meals wisely and educate yourself about diabetes management as much as you can. Don't allow your busy lifestyle to hinder your control over diabetes. These nifty iPhone apps are designed for those who live life on the go. Carb counting and meal planning won't be such tedious tasks anymore. Managing your life while balancing your health is possible after all. Plus, some of these apps also make learning about diabetes very entertaining.

Diabetes Alert

Wearing a diabetes bracelet is a way to alert people near you in case of emergency, but what if they are so panicky about your condition that they fail to notice the bracelet? Or what if they see the bracelet but still have no idea how to help you? With Diabetes Alert, you can show them a short first-aid guide along with your emergency contact information right on the custom lock screen of your iPhone. For example, you can create a custom lock screen that says: "I am a diabetic and carry glucose tablets in my purse." Just like that, you can help those Samaritans help you. That's not all this diabetes app can do, though. Besides the "In Case of Emergency" function, Diabetes Alert also offers a wealth of information about diabetic health management and provides maps to nearby medical resources.

Diabetes Buddy

A key to successful blood-sugar control is to regularly monitor your carb intake, physical activities, body weight and blood sugar levels. Diabetes Buddy is a nifty iPhone app that will help you do all that in a stress-free way. With a broad food database and an accurate carb-counting tool, you can quickly calculate your carb consumption as well as other nutrient intake, such as fat, protein, fiber, vitamins and sodium. A large number of diabetic users agree that Diabetes Buddy has made it much easier for them to monitor the fluctuations in their blood glucose levels and better understand various factors that might have caused those fluctuations. Plus, you can email your data to your doctor right from the app.

DiabetesIQ

People who are naturally competitive will likely find this diabetes app very addictive. DiabetesIQ equips you with health diaries to track your blood sugar, blood pressure and weight, and also offers quizzes and games for you to test your level of knowledge about diabetes. After taking each quiz, you will receive an extensive feedback and have an option to compare your result with those of other contestants. There are several game levels on this iPhone application. The more you play, the more you'll learn how to deal with diabetes. As you progress through multiple game levels, you may experience gradual progress in your health as well.

10000+ Diabetic Recipes

This diabetes app is really wonderful for those who love to cook. It is a huge library of diabetic-friendly recipes with detailed nutritional information. You can search recipes by entering their names or browse them by categories. Or if you're not sure what you should make with whatever you have in your refrigerator, you can select specific criteria of ingredients and find out what relevant recipes might come up.

Shot In The Arm

Being diabetic doesn't mean you have to live a life of doom and gloom. Diabetes might make your life more difficult, but you should still try to handle it with an optimistic attitude. If that sounds too hard to do by yourself, this iPhone app can surely help you. Shot In The Arm provides you one diabetes tip a day, in the form of witty quotes or humorous anecdotes that will help you learn and make you laugh at the same time. Plus, all the tips are very timely. In the summer, you may learn tips on how to stay safe during outdoor activities. And right around Thanksgiving time, you may receive advice on how to pig out smartly.

Thanks, jenubouka! I've been telling my diabetic mom about these apps, but she's so technology-shy and keeps refusing to get a smart phone. So she's been keeping track of her glucose levels and other stuff with old-school tools: pen and journal! lol

I wish this app exists years before. I think this is very useful for diabetics and it seems like fun too. Rated up!

I wish the same thing. My late aunts and uncles might have been healthier or even lived a little longer if they had had smart tools like these to fight diabetes. Thanks so much for dropping by, Angeline :)
